How to find where you've been doxxed online

Updated October 2026

To find where you've been doxxed, search your details in quotes, run Google's free check, then look at the data broker sites.

Posted addresses and phone numbers usually turn up in three places: Google results, the site where they were posted, and the data broker sites they were copied from.

If anyone threatens you or shows up where you live, call 911 first. If it just happened, start with what to do in the first hour. Everything below can wait an hour.
  1. Search your details in quotes

    • On Google, search your phone number, street address and email, each one in quotes, then each one with your name.
    • Do the same in X and Reddit search. Exact quotes find copies that were pasted word for word.
    • If a photo of you was posted, a reverse image search finds other copies. See how to find where an image or post went viral.
  2. Run Google's "Results about you"

    • Free. It looks for Google results showing your phone, home address or email and lists them for you.
    • Turn on its alerts to hear when a new result shows up. A Google Alert on your name covers the rest: how to track mentions of your name.
  3. Check the data broker sites

    • Most home addresses that get posted online come from these people-search sites.
    • Optery's free exposure report shows which broker sites list you.
  4. Check forums and archive sites

    • A post that was deleted may still have a copy. Paste its link into web.archive.org.
    • Pressfront Trace can look for your info on forums and archive sites during one trace. It shows you the link, hides the text, and deletes what you typed when the trace ends.
  5. Save each one, then report it and get it removed

    • Save first. Screenshot each post with the link, date and time showing, and note the account's handle. Don't reply; replies can spread it. More: documentation tools.
    • Report it to the site. X: report as "private information". Reddit: its content policy bans posting personal info. TikTok: removes posts that share someone's private info, including about public figures.
    • Remove it from Google with the same Results about you tool. It hides the result in Google but doesn't delete the page, so the report to the site still matters.
    • Clear the broker sites. These services file the removal requests for you: Optery from $3.99/mo, Incogni $7.99/mo, DeleteMe about $129/yr, Kanary $250/yr.
    • Lock your accounts. Turn on two-factor login for your email and social accounts. Once personal info is public, people sometimes try to get into the accounts linked to it.
No federal law

The US has no law that covers posting someone's personal info in general (often called doxxing). Federal stalking law can apply when it's repeated, and some states have their own doxxing laws, including California.

If it's intimate images

StopNCII.org can stop copies of intimate images on partner sites, and the CCRI helpline gives free help.

What Trace will never do

Trace never tells you who someone is in real life, and never keeps the private info you ask it to look for.

See who's posting about you, freePaste your @username. Public posts only. No account, no card.

This page isn't legal advice. For a lawyer or the police, bring the screenshots and links from step 5. Related: how to trace where a pile-on started · signs of coordinated harassment on X

Questions

How do I check if my address is posted online?

Search your street address in quotes on Google, run Google's free Results about you check, and run a free data broker scan such as Optery's exposure report. Together they cover search results and the people-search sites most posted addresses come from.

Can I find out who doxxed me?

You can often see the account that posted it, but not who is behind it. Platforms usually share account records only with the police or under a court order. Pressfront Trace shows accounts and posts, never real names.

Does Google's Results about you delete the page?

No. It removes the result from Google search. The page stays up until the site takes it down, so report it to the site too.
